Up the ranks: Amit Das moves from Reliance Comms to Bennett Coleman

Amit Das has been appointed the director of human resources at India's major media house, Bennett Coleman (BCCL), part of The Times of India group.

The assignment, effective May 4th 2015, saw him move from Reliance Communications, where he was the president and CHRO.

Das is now based at Bennett Coleman's headquarters in Delhi, after relocating from Mumbai.

His primary responsibilities include providing strategic thought leadership and driving the people agenda aligned to business imperatives for BCCL.

"Based on business challenges and rapid changes in employee demographics, HR leaders need to focus on attracting and retaining the right talent, fostering a culture of differentiated performance, and building a diverse talent pipeline ready to take up critical leadership roles," he told Human Resources.

"Hence, as an organisation leader, I always stay awake and vigilant of how well we are able to manage career aspirations of our top talent and help build their career with us."

To him, this entails collective ownership of the top talent pool by the organisation's leadership team, as well as building a mentoring culture to nurture future leaders, who in turn, he says, will create disproportionate value for the enterprise.

In Das' view, with today's volatile business, organisations have no option but to take a much closer look at their talent pools, and nurture these capabilities on a continuous basis.

"This necessitates the compelling need for robustness in leadership pipeline and succession planning for critical leadership roles in order to ensure business continuity and manage future business growth," he explained.
