UN Human Rights Council adopts resolution sponsored by Malaysia, Thailand, and more member nations

The resolution encourages states to promote, instil, and integrate human rights principles in public service.

The United Nations Human Rights Council has, on 3 April 2023 (Monday), adopted a resolution entitled 'Promoting Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals through Transparent, Accountable and Efficient Public Services Delivery'.

In a press release, Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) shared that this resolution was sponsored by Malaysia along with other members of the core group namely, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Thailand, Türkiye, Kenya, and Ecuador, at the 52nd Session of the Council.

What this resolution brings to the table

This resolution was set in place to encourage states to promote, instil, and integrate human rights principles in public service. As further explained, it calls for the voluntary exchange of information and best practices, particularly in the digitalisation of public service.

The resolution also encourages capacity-building and training in areas of human rights, gender equality, the rule of law, and good governance.

The MFA noted: "The resolution attests to Malaysia’s efforts to advance human rights and the SDGs, in line with the 'Malaysia Madani' espoused by YAB Prime Minister. The resolution augurs well with the core values of Madani in strengthening public service delivery through transparency, accountability, and integrity.

It added: "The resolution demonstrates the determination of the members of the core group to contribute to the Human Rights Council’s mandate towards the advancement of global human rights agenda."
