French video game group Ubisoft has cut 70 positions at its Singapore studio.
In a statement to Human Resources Online, a Ubisoft spokesperson said the reduction comes as part of efforts to "align the studio with production needs", adding that the studio "remains an important part of Ubisoft's global production organisation."
Alongside this, Ubisoft said it has informed teams of a proposal to close its studio in Finland, RedLynx – which is behind the Trials series, subject to the local change negotiation process. This is expected to affect up to 52 positions.
"We deeply value the contributions of both teams and recognize the impact this may have on our colleagues," the spokesperson said.
"We are committed to supporting our teams throughout this process and conducting it with care and respect."
In Singapore, the company is working with Skills & Workforce Development Agency and NTUC’s Employment & Employability Institute to support affected team members, including by facilitating job placements.
The proposed closure of RedLynx follows job cuts at the video game developer last year, when Ubisoft sought to refocus the studio on mobile games. The studio had more than 150 employees in 2021, according to Channel NewsAsia (CNA).
The cuts come as Ubisoft seeks to return to profitability after reporting a net loss of €1.5bn (US$1.68bn) for its 2025-26 financial year. The company is targeting at least €200mn in spending cuts over two years, on top of €300mn in savings previously planned, CNA reported.
