Twitter to build new engineering centre in Singapore, first in Asia Pacific

Twitter has announced plans to build its first engineering centre in Asia Pacific as part of its expansion in the region. In a blog post on Thursday (13 February 2020), the firm's Global Head of Engineering, Michael Montano, said the engineering centre will be based in Twitter's Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore.

The new centre will help strengthen the firm's global engineering capabilities as well as improve service availability and reliability for people who use Twitter around the world.

As Twitter focuses on accelerating development and continuing to serve the global public conversation, it is committing to hiring 65 technical talent in Singapore covering product engineering, software engineering, data engineering and data science.

Montano said: "This additional investment in R&D in Singapore comes after the success of our international data science team, founded in Singapore in 2016 which was Twitter’s first outside of the US."

Kiren Kumar, Chief Digital Industry Officer, Digital Industry Singapore, added: "The latest investment by Twitter to establish Singapore as a key engineering centre marks another milestone in our continued partnership. Twitter’s move demonstrates confidence in Singapore as a world-class engineering talent hub, and will create exciting, new job opportunities for Singapore and Singaporeans."
