Singapore residents see boost in life expectancy in 2024

In 2024, life expectancy at birth rose to 83.5 years — up from 83.2 in 2023 and 82.6 a decade ago. At age 65, life expectancy also grew to 21.2 years, marking steady gains over the past ten years.

Singapore’s Department of Statistics has released its Complete Life Tables for the Singapore Resident Population, 2023–2024, revealing continued gains in life expectancy in 2024 compared to both the previous year and a decade ago.

According to an update published on Tuesday (27 May 2025), life expectancy at birth for Singapore residents reached 83.5 years in 2024 — an increase of 0.3 years from 83.2 in 2023, and 0.9 years higher than in 2014, when it stood at 82.6 years.

Similarly, life expectancy at age 65 rose to 21.2 years in 2024, up from 20.9 years in 2023 and 20.6 years a decade earlier—marking a 0.6-year improvement over ten years.

Improvements in life expectancy by gender 

When broken down by gender, resident males had a life expectancy at birth of 81.2 years in 2024, while females lived longer on average at 85.6 years. This reflects an increase of 0.2 years for males and 0.3 years for females from the previous year.

Over the past decade, male life expectancy rose by 0.9 years—from 80.3 in 2014—while female life expectancy increased by 0.8 years from 84.8 in the same year.

At age 65, male life expectancy increased from 18.8 years in 2014 to 19.5 years in 2024. Female life expectancy at the same age rose from 22.1 to 22.7 years over the same period.
