Singapore ranks as happiest place in Asia 2024

Markets in Asia lagged behind the global top 10, with Singapore ranking in the 30th spot.

Singapore has ranked as the happiest country in all of Asia, according to the World Happiness Report 2024.

In determining these rankings, the report looked at a three-year average of each population’s average assessment of their quality of life from responses of people in over 140 nations.

Globally, the top 10 countries have remained much the same since before the COVID-19 pandemic — Finland retains its top spot, with Denmark following closely. The full list is as follow: 

  1. Finland (7.741)
  2. Denmark (7.583)
  3. Iceland (7.525)
  4. Sweden (7.344)
  5. Israel (7.341)
  6. Netherlands (7.319)
  7. Norway (7.302)
  8. Luxembourg (7.122)
  9. Switzerland (7.060)
  10. Australia (7.057)

Closer to home, markets in Asia lagged behind the global top 10, with Singapore ranking as the happiest Asian region in the 30th spot. Despite being behind, East Asia still recorded large increases in scores, especially for the older population. On the other hand, life evaluations fell in South Asia in all age groups, especially in the middle age groups. 

The top 10 happiest regions in Asia were:

  1. Singapore (6.523) - 30th place globally
  2. Taiwan (6.503) - 31st place globally
  3. Japan (6.060) - 51st place globally
  4. South Korea (6.058) - 52nd place globally
  5. Philippines (6.048) - 53rd place globally
  6. Vietnam (6.043) - 54th place globally
  7. Thailand (5.976) - 58th place globally
  8. Malaysia (5.975) - 59th place globally
  9. China (5.973) - 60th place globally
  10. Indonesia (5.568) - 80th place globally
