Singapore firms to get up to $50,000 for promoting healthy lifestyles

As part of the upcoming National Day celebrations, the Singapore government will financially support local firms that wish to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle among their staff.

Announced yesterday by Sport Singapore (SportSG), the Active Enabler Programme will give up to $50,000 to companies that launch new sports-focused projects and hold them in the week leading up to National Day.

"The Active Enabler Programme is a component of GetActive! Singapore that supports ground up/community oriented proposals for creative, sport focused and lifestyle driven activities," Sport Singapore stated.

"These activities can range from mass participation events to social events that infuse elements of sport, to workshops and seminars, to even the development of innovative and inspirational initiatives, with a tinge of National Day celebrations."

The sports body added successful applicants can expect to be funded up to 90% of qualifying costs, capped at SG$25,000 (for project) or SG$50,000 (for mass events), whichever is lower.

"Beyond providing cash outlay, the Active Enabler grant has in-kind components in which SportSG will be providing sport expertise such as the provision of fitness instructors and sport coaches/officials, facilitation in organising events, to sport and snack packs, to even the provision of venue spaces for events" SportSG stated.

Interested groups of individuals, schools, organisations and community groups could submit their applications from 10 May 2016 to 30 Jun 2016.

Groups must comprise at least two applicants aged 18 years and above, with at least one being a Singaporean.

Additionally, organisations must be registered in Singapore with the Registry of Societies (ROS) or the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA). One Singaporean applicant is required on behalf of the organisation.

Sport Singapore also thanked its partners for the support it has received for GetActive! Singapore.

FedEx Express Singapore, one of the partners already on board the programme, told Human Resources that it firmly believes in the promotion of healthy living among its employees.

“At FedEx, we are invested in the health and well-being of our entire workforce," said Khoo Seng Thiam, managing director, FedEx Express Singapore.

"We are proud to support Active SG’s ‘Get Active!’ campaign which complements the sports and wellness programs we already have in place within the company. We aim to leverage the initiative to reinforce the importance of physical fitness and encourage even more team members to adopt an active lifestyle.”
