Reminder: Employers in Malaysia to submit projection of expatriates by 2 December 2022

The projection balance for the year 2022 is for application submission in 2022, while that for 2023 is for application submission from 1 January 2023 onwards.

Employers in Malaysia are to note that the latest date to submit their projection of expatriates for 2022 will be 2 December this year. 

In a reminder update on Thursday (17 November 2022), the Expatriate Services Department (ESD) shared the following steps for employers to apply for their projections:

  • Log in to your ESD account and click "Applications"
  • Click "Projection" (located in the "Setting" tab on the left column of the screen)
  • Select "Projection Year"
  • Request "New Projection"

Employers should also note the following:

  • Have the latest e-SSM in place before submitting the projection request;
  • During submission, the company is required to provide justification for hiring expatriates, along with supporting documents (if any);
  • Employers must fill in all the information required, for example the total number of local staff and foreign staff, and
  • Please choose the correct Projection Year, i.e. 2022 and position group (top management, middle management, technical expert, and entry-level).

The ESD further highlighted that the projection balance for the year 2022 is for application submission in 2022, while the projection balance for the year 2023 is for application submission from 1 January 2023 onwards.
