Paris Baguette Malaysia shifts to direct regional management after Berjaya Food exits joint venture

The ownership change brings the bakery chain's Malaysian operations under its Singapore-based Southeast Asia headquarters, with plans to strengthen operations, workforce training, and halal-led growth.

Paris Baguette Malaysia is now under the direct ownership and management of the brand's Southeast Asia regional headquarters in Singapore, following the completion of Berjaya Food's (BFood) exit from the joint venture, according to The Star.

The development comes a day after BFood announced that it had disposed of its entire 50% stake in Berjaya Paris Baguette Sdn Bhd (BPB) to Paris Baguette Singapore Pte Ltd for a nominal cash consideration of RM1, marking its exit from the loss-making bakery business in Malaysia.

As further reported by The Star, Paris Baguette said in a statement that the new ownership structure places its Malaysian operations under the direct stewardship of its Southeast Asia regional headquarters. This will give the business access to shared regional resources across brand strategy, product development, supply chain, and operational management.

The company added that the move aligns its Malaysian business more closely with its broader Southeast Asia expansion strategy. It will also be supported by its fully halal-certified production hub in Johor, which is expected to strengthen supply chain resilience, improve product consistency and support operational scalability.

Greater focus on workforce capabilities and service standards

As part of the integration, Paris Baguette said it will increase training for its bakers and frontline service teams, while strengthening quality control measures and service protocols to improve the overall customer experience.

The company, further quoted by The Star, said Malaysia remains a key market in its regional growth plans and that combining its global expertise with local market insights and continued investment will support its long-term expansion in the country.

Paris Baguette also highlighted halal compliance as a strategic priority for its Malaysian operations, following recent halal certifications in Singapore and Indonesia.
