Under the new setup, MyDigital ID will be used to verify user identity directly against the National Registration Department database, allowing for more accurate and secure identity verification.
Starting 15 January 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) will begin using MyDigital ID (MyDID) as a single login system for Malaysia citizens accessing the MyNIISe mobile application, according to a media statement from the ministry.
Foreign nationals will continue using the existing MyNIISe login method, with no changes to current access arrangements.
What the switch to MyDigital ID means
The move is part of the wider rollout of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe), which aims to modernise immigration services while strengthening security and user experience.
Under the new setup, MyDigital ID will be used to verify user identity directly against the National Registration Department (JPN) database, without storing personal data. KDN said this approach allows for more accurate and secure identity verification, while reducing the need for users to remember multiple passwords.
For users, the change translates into a single sign-in experience, simplifying access to MyNIISe while maintaining safeguards around data protection and transaction security.
Malaysia citizens aged 18 and above are advised to download and register for the MyDigital ID application before using MyNIISe. The app is available on major platforms including the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Huawei AppGallery.
MyNIISe expansion across major entry points
The MyNIISe application has been in use since 22 September 2025, initially covering land entry points at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Johor Bahru.
According to KDN, the system will be expanded in stages to other key locations, including KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, Bayan Lepas, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu.
As of 30 December 2025, MyNIISe recorded 599,967 downloads, with 287,258 registered users, signalling growing public uptake ahead of the wider national rollout.
Broader digital and border security upgrades ahead
Separately, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs said the Immigration Department and National Registration Department will introduce a new Malaysian passport and a new MyKad by the second quarter or early third quarter of 2026, Malay Mail reported.
The updated documents will feature enhanced security elements to strengthen their reliability. Existing passports and MyKad will remain valid until expiry, with replacements only required at that point. The minister added that the public would be informed around six months in advance to prevent rush or panic.
As part of Visit Malaysia Year initiatives, Datuk Seri Saifuddin also said border control and immigration measures are being strengthened nationwide, with autogate systems planned for major entry points including KLIA, Johor’s land checkpoints, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, and Sarawak.
