Malaysia's Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) announced that it will be launching an initiative to train 10,000 workforce with basic emergency aid skills.
This effort was sealed through a strategic collaboration between KESUMA, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (PBSMM), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) to reduce the rate of accidental mortality and disability by promoting effective early response, fostering a culture of safety among employers and employees, and ensuring compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514).
"This collaboration is not just a training exercise; it is an effort to empower Malaysians to save lives. We want to send a clear message: safety in the workplace is not an option; it is a priority," said Human Resources Minster Steven Sim on 12 June 2025 during an official visit to the IFRC headquarters in Geneva.
Minister Sim also stated that the training will be implemented through HRD Corp and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), with a focus on high-risk sectors such as manufacturing and key industries.
