With 12 years of experience in PwC, she shapes and runs programmes for its people, community and environment that are sustainable and long term.
We welcome Florence Tan, corporate responsibility senior manager, PwC, on stage to enlighten us on strategies needed to make wellness programmes sustainable and cost-effective.
She says: "Leadership support is one of the key elements to sustaining a wellness programme."
Tan shares that one of the key challenges faced along the health and wellness journey was competing priorities.
To overcome that challenge, she says: "We try to get people to participate at various times when they are not so busy and have less work."
After the break, we return with an interesting discussion by our next speaker, Puratos' human resources and administration director.
His experiences range from recruitment and staffing, organisational and space planning, to employee safety and welfare, just to name a few.
We welcome Adriad Choo, human resources and administration director, Puratos, to share his insights on re-inventing benefits packages to improve work-life balance for internal stakeholders.
He says: "More people are talking about work-life, but what does that mean to you? You are also an employee.
I feel that people want work-life balance such that their work doesn’t interfere with their life or family time."

For more than 10 years, Virgin Pulse has been bringing deep insights into employee health challenges in Asia and proving the value on investment in strategic wellbeing initiatives.
Let us call upon John Garrido, Asia regional director, Virgin Pulse, to tap on these insights to enlighten us on why wellness isn't enough and share how holistic employee wellbeing can be embedded into organisation culture.
Garrido shares: "In order to engage the high risk employees, you have to make sure health and wellbeing programmes are fun and make sure that people engage in it frequently such that it improves their health over time."
He adds that organisations have to make the healthy option simple. For example, firms should start with encouraging employees to walk more often or take the stairs instead of starting off with encouraging them to go on a 20km run.
"A lot of employees, when they think about improving their health, they think about fitness, they are not realising that improving health takes much simpler changes," he adds.

Then shares: "We used three approaches to drive the focus on health at DHL.
We need to know ourselves through conducting surveys. Then we need expert advice. Thereafter, we also need ambassadors and change agents."

Up next we have a very interesting keynote on how to harness HR analytics effectively in order to design and track rewards programmes.
Sharing on this topic is a speaker who has had nearly 25 years of experience in strategic HR. As the senior director of human resources and organisational development, at Singapore University of Technology and Design, her responsibilities include managing compensation structures, performance management systems, and talent frameworks.
Let us welcome - Dr Jaclyn Lee, senior director, human resources and organisational development, Singapore University of Technology and Design.
She says: "The future of HR departments will depend on having people who are more comfortable with data."
At the same time, she shares some key questions to ask when getting started on using analytics:

- What are the main people related challenges that affect your company’s ability to execute on corporate goals and strategy.

Rasasegram of The Employee Experience Project shares that discussing about compensation and benefits doesn't start from when the employee is hired, but from when the candidate comes in for interviews.
She advises: "In terms of employee experience, try to create that one thing that has that halo effect so that when people come in for interviews, people will talk to their friends and family about it."
Answering the tough question about the compensation gap between senior management and junior executives, Chandralakshmi of Heineken says: "The reason there is this difference between the compensation of senior level staff and junior level employees is that the ones in the junior levels tend to take a lower level of risk."
However, she points out, "in terms of benefits, there are some that you want to differentiate and some that you cannot differentiate depending on the overarching philosophy of your organisation and the image you want to portray."

Our next speaker is currently leading the performance, rewards and analytics team at Digi.
Through her nearly 10 years of experience, in both line human resources and consulting, she has accumulated broad experience in global rewards having managed compensation and benefits programmes for more than 30 countries across Asia and Europe.
We invite on stage, Sulaxmi Prasad, head of performance, rewards,and analytics, Digi, to give us an essence of Digi's total rewards strategy.
Prasad reveals: "We started with a one size fits all approach, but as we embarked on the evolution journey, we started to customise and humanise. We have started exploring more variable compensation plans which are tailored to the nature of the work."
Elaborating on how the compensation plans are tailored, she adds: "For transactional jobs, we can motivate them through 'if then rewards'.But for heuristics jobs, we have to motivate them by 'what if rewards'. What really motivates these people is the job."
Our first speaker has held leadership positions in various organisations – from corporate, government, non-profit to private businesses.
His experiences has led him to be one of the forefront leaders at Mindvalley, spearheading both people strategy and technology.
We welcome, Ezekiel Vicente, chief human resources officer and vice president for technology, Mindvalley, on stage to share his insights on how companies can drive better business outcomes through better employee experience.
"When people see that their leaders are constantly happy, they will feel that it is ok to be smiling and happy in the office too," he says.
"Happiness is the new productivity. People want to work in workplaces that make them feel fulfilled," he concluded.

Today, Samuel Wee, general manager – business operations, REV Asia, taps on his experience to share tips on how organisations can foster a culture of engagement, alignment and loyalty.
He says: "There always needs to be a culture champion if you want to align the culture of the team, and it cannot be human resource department - it needs to be the business leaders.
The most important thing to fostering culture is when people can see that the management is not just talking, but walking the talk."

Tapping on his vast experience in various aspects of HR, he will share the case for flexible work arrangements as well as its critical success factors.

When implementing new flexible work arrangements, Ng shares that organisations should start with a pilot and determine eligibility. Then, they should establish a policy and communication plan. Finally, establish accountability and success measures.
"When we take care of employees’ needs, we are also trying to help them make the best use of their time, knowledge, skills, and abilities," he adds.

Up next, we have a speaker who is passionate about developing impactful HR programmes that maximise value for employers and employees and employs savvy cross-generational tailored communications to drive desired outcomes.
A number of her initiatives have been been recognised for numerous accolades and awards, including Best Employers Malaysia, Best Employers APAC, and ServQual.
Today, Penelope Gan, deputy group CHRO, AmBank Malaysia, takes the stage to share about using flexi benefits to address demographic challenges from an MNC's perspective.
She says: "The key thing to create sustainability is to keep it simple. This means that everyone has to understand what is in it for them, from the CEO to the junior executives."
After that well-deserved lunch break, we welcome you back with some tips on how to leverage on benefits to attract and retain a young workforce.
Sharing on this topic is an entrepreneur who has founded three businesses and strives to make a positive impact and create purposeful jobs; actively nurturing high-performing teams and enhancing innovative thinking.
Today, Daryll Tan, co-founder and director, OpenMinds, taps on his experience and share these helpful tips through a case study from a tech start-up's point of view.
Tan says: "We want to focus on the needs of people especially in a startup."
He further reveals that as a startup, in order to sustain the benefits offered, the company is very transparent with their financials.
"Every 6 months we hold a financial review where we show employees the amount that goes into their benefits and let them know that the only way for this to continue is for the business to be bringing in money."

Up next, we have our very first panel of the day. Moderating this discussion on stretching the compensation and benefits budget in a slowing economy is Rhenu Bhuller, partner, Frost & Sullivan (middle). At times, even when organisations offer numerous benefits, employees still seem to be dissatisfied. "One if the reasons C&B is not appreciated in the company is a lack of communication or that the communication is not intense enough to reach all employees," Yeoh of MIHRM analyses.
The one thing companies looking to introduce new benefits are always worried about is getting buy in from stakeholders. To that, Samsuddin of iflix suggests: "If we want to introduce any new medical benefit in a flexi approach, we have a thing we call “lovable solutions” - the analogy is that you introduce a skateboard rather than a rocket. Once you get buy in on a skateboard, then it’s worth it to develop the rocket."
A tip Lai of Gamuda has for implementing new flexi benefits is to keep it simple.
"What employees want is what they can use today, so keep it simple. Give them a pool of money they can use on the benefits they prioritise according to their needs," Lai says.

Speaking on this topic is a speaker who has had nearly 20 years of international consulting experience across the UK and Europe, and more recently in Asia.
He is currently the CEO of Mercer’s Malaysia operations, focused on bringing the best of Mercer’s capabilities in advancing the health, wealth and careers of the most vital asset of its clients – their people.

He says: "One way [to reduce cost without cutting benefits] is to set up employee benefits programmes by listening to what employees want and empowering them to choose their own benefits through flexible plans."

This next speaker, has had more than 24 years of experience in the insurance industry, having held senior management positions in life and non-life insurance in the UK, Middle East, India and continental Europe.
In November 2016, he was appointed chief business development officer of group corporate solutions at AIA Group. Prior to that was he was CEO of AIA Sri Lanka from March 2010.
Today, Shah Rouf, chief business development officer of group corporate solutions, AIA Group, takes the stage to share how firms can make a real difference to employee benefits.
"Wellness is an opportunity to make sure your employees are healthy. It is also an opportunity to tackle the health care costs to ensure it doesn’t affect the business," Rouf says.
Our next speaker has been an experienced facilitator, change agent and L&D consultant for global companies over the course of his career.
Currently at HP, he designs and develops curriculums in partnership with SMEs internally and externally to address the larger competency gaps across key roles at APJ (Asia Pacific and Japan).
We invite on stage, Derrick Lim, training and employee engagement lead, HP Inc, to shed light on how HR should prepare themselves for the gig economy from a compensation and benefits perspective.
He says: "In the gig economy, HR needs to reinvent its politics and compensation packages; drive employee engagement; support changing initiatives and workforce; carry out meaningful conversations; and continue to play key roles to business alignment."
Our first speaker is currently the director of the National Human Resource Centre (NHRC), Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF).
Prior to this, he was an associate director of finance and HR for a subsidiary of Bank Negara which specialised in accreditation and quality assurance of training programmes in the financial services industry.
We welcome, Mohd Sidki Hasan, director of the National Human Resource Centre (NHRC), Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), on stage to tap on his experience and help us analyse the future outlook of HR standards in Malaysia.
"In order to transform traditional HR to business partner, we HR practitioners must transform ourselves. We must benchmark our profession like the marketing or accounting profession," he says.
