IBM and SkillsFuture Singapore launch skills programme for mid-career professionals

IBM and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) have introduced a new skills programme for mid-career professionals, as part of the SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme-Company Training.

Known as 'i.am-vitalize', the programme comprises two tracks - Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cybersecurity, with each featuring a six-month certifiable, full-time training programme to equip learners with industry-relevant skills. The key syllabus for is curated and delivered by IBM Skills Academy, and includes topics on design thinking, cloud computing, AI, data science, cybersecurity and blockchain.

  • Trainees who select the AI track will learn how companies optimise data and leverage AI to empower their digital workforce and transform customer service.
  • Trainees who choose the Cybersecurity track will understand how blockchain eco-systems disrupt global supply chains, and pick up cybersecurity skills to protect IT systems from cyber-attacks.

Upon completion, trainees will be equipped with relevant skills for job roles such as AI Designer, Blockchain Product Manager, Blockchain Developer, Data Engineer, and Security Operation Analyst.

IBM is also working with corporations such as Tribe Accelerator and Standard Chartered Bank, to facilitate job placement opportunities to qualified candidates.

A blended approach

The programme will take on a blended learning model, comprising lecture modules, hands-on lab sessions, and group work grounded on industry-based case studies. Through this, trainees will first have to complete a set of introductory modules before branching into their chosen tracks.

After subsidies from SSG, the course will cost S$500 and trainees can offset this amount with their SkillsFuture Credit. In addition, each enrolled trainee will be given a monthly allowance of S$1,500.
