Among the top 10 universities in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, five are from Hong Kong, three from Mainland China, and two from Singapore.
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has reclaimed its position as Asia’s leading university in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, surpassing Peking University and returning to the top spot after 15 years.
This year’s rankings evaluated over 1,500 institutions across the region using 11 indicators, including academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), international research network (10%), proportion of international students (2.5%), among others.
Hong Kong has five institutions ranked in the top 10, namely the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in addition to HKU.
In total, 11 Hong Kong institutions made the list, comprising eight UGC-funded universities and three self-financing institutions.
Mainland China is represented by three universities in the top 10: Peking University, Fudan University, and Tsinghua University.
Singapore also performed well, with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) tied at third place.
South Korea secured six spots in the top 20, including Yonsei University (11th), Korea University (12th), Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) (16th), Seoul National University (17th), Pohang University of Science And Technology (POSTECH) (18th), and Hanyang University (20th).
Malaysia saw six universities in the top 30, led by Universiti Malaya (UM) (15th), followed by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) (22nd), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) (24th), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (25th), Taylor's University (27th), and UCSI University (30th).
Other notable institutions include National Taiwan University (NTU) (23rd), University of Tokyo (26th), Kyoto University (28th), and Tohoku University (29th).
