Empowering businesses in strategic corporate giving

Company of Good, an initiative brought by National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, has confirmed its participation in Asia’s only regional learning & development conference for HR leaders and senior L&D specialists, Training & Development Asia.

Training & Development Asia 2017 will take place in Hong Kong on July 7, in Malaysia on August 15-16, in Singapore on August 17-18, and in the Philippines on August 17.

“Skills-based volunteering (SBV) is becoming the new executive training ground; attention is now being diverted to how such programs develop leadership talent within the volunteers themselves,” said Theresa Goh, managing director of 360 Dynamics and board member, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre. “How an organisation attracts, builds and develops their leadership is a critical indicator of the company’s future performance.”

She added: “Studies are pointing to how SBV may be a more effective leadership development experience –both in cost and the diversity of learning – than traditional open or customised programs.”

Goh will be joining the panel discussion on “Creating an environment of high performance to lay the foundation for company success” which will be moderated by Dr Makarand Tare, chief talent officer APAC, McCann Worldgroup. Tare and Goh will be joined by Dylan Choong, regional human resources director SEA at Sephora and Brandon Lew, vice president human resources at T-Systems.

The panel discussion will touch on how organisations can create a system of elements that drive organisational behaviour and performance and how to overcome managerial and organisational barriers.

Goh has over 20 years experience in the technology, executive search and leadership development sectors in Asia. Her career began in 1985 with IBM where she managed global client accounts in the petrochemical sectors such as Shell and British Petroleum. After ten years with IBM, Goh established a boutique executive search firm specialising in the IT industry. For the next ten years, she was an equity partner and from 1998 to 2001, she was the co-chairman.

Goh holds a Masters in Science (Organisational Psychology) from City University of New York and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore. She serves on the Boards of Agency for Integrated Care (Ministry of Health), National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) and SATA CommHealth.

Developed by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, Company of Good looks to build a community of corporate givers and ignite a giving movement through businesses. The movement inspires and activates companies to give strategically, sustainably and with impact, benefiting both businesses and the community.

One of the movement’s flagship programmes is the Company of Good Fellowship. The Company of Good Fellowship is a talent development programme that empowers and develops top talents in organisations. A first in Singapore, selected fellows sharpen their business perspectives and build capabilities in leadership and corporate giving. The Company of Good Fellowship seeks to develop a community of corporate leaders who will strengthen the eco-system of giving in Singapore.

Companies can tap on opportunities to acquire corporate giving knowledge, build capabilities, network and collaborate through Company of Good’s various programmes and initiatives. This programme is in partnership with the Singapore Business Federation Foundation and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth.

Past Training & Development Asia conferences were participated in by MNCs and the most reputable firms across Asia, such as BNP Paribas, Citi, McDonald’s, Manulife, Seagate Technology, Telstra, VISA Worldwide and many more. All presenters & panellists, such as Mimi Fu, director of learning and development at Ocean Park, are director or vice president level HR professionals with regional responsibility.
