Chris Sun appointed as Hong Kong’s Secretary for Labour and Welfare effective 1 July 2022

Currently the Commissioner for Labour, he joined the Administrative Service in 1994 and has served in various bureaux and departments.

Hong Kong SAR's Chief Executive-elect John Lee introduced his governing team to the media at a press conference on 19 June 2022 (Sunday), including 21 Principal Officials, and five Principal Officials heading the disciplined services, the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Audit Commission.

Among the appointments, current Commissioner for Labour Chris Sun has been designated as Secretary for Labour and Welfare, effective from 1 July 2022.

The 50-year-old joined the Administrative Service in 1994 and rose to the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in 2019. He has served in various bureaux and departments, including the former Finance Branch, the former Constitutional Affairs Bureau, the former Finance Bureau, the Home Affairs Department, the Home Affairs Bureau, the Civil Service Bureau and the Food and Health Bureau.

Sun was appointed as Deputy Secretary for Food and Health (Health) in 2011, Head (Healthcare Planning and Development Office) in 2012, and Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services) in 2017. He has been Commissioner for Labour since 2020.

Lee and all the Principal Officials of the Sixth-term of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government will start their tenure on 1 July 2022.
