By 2018, you'll receive 140 emails a day

Emails are both a blessing and a curse in corporate life, and a new report has revealed the number of messages in our inboxes are expected to jump from 121 daily to 140 in four years' time.

The study by The Radicati Group also found the number of global email accounts will go up from the current 4.1 billion to 5.2 billion at the end of 2018.

It is no surprise then the number of business emails sent and received daily is anticipated to rise from  over 108.7 billion in 2014 to more than 139.4 billion in 2018.

And with more employees working on their mobile devices, the report also predicts the number of mobile email users to double from 1.1 billion in 2014 to 2.2 billion in 2018.

However, it would be interesting to see if this surge in email usage will hold true for Singaporean executives.

In March, a study by Redshift Research on behalf of Polycom, Inc reported local HR leaders to prefer video communication methods over email.

More than half of local respondents (56%) believed video will be the top choice for corporate communication, ahead of email (49%) and voice calls (32%).
