This is expected to support enhanced sustainability reporting within the Exchange's 'Listing Requirements', introduced on 26 September 2022.
Bursa Malaysia has launched its ‘ESG Reporting Platform’ to act as a repository for disclosures conforming to the prescribed format under the Exchange’s enhanced sustainability reporting requirements.
These reporting requirements fall within the Main and ACE Market Listing Requirements which was introduced on 26 September 2022.
Here is a rundown of what listed issuers are required to do/note to ensure a smooth reporting process:
- Listed issuers are to access the ESG Reporting Platform via the Bursa LINK system.
- A summary performance table will then be generated and must then be disclosed in their respective Sustainability Statements.
- The performance table must include indicators and data pertinent to the listed issuer’s material sustainability matters.
Simultaneous with the introduction of the ESG Reporting Platform — unveiled on 4 December 2023, Bursa Malaysia has provided user guides and videos designed to help listed issuers navigate its functionalities, which can be accessed by registered Bursa LINK users.
Bursa Malaysia Chief Regulatory Officer Julian Hashim shared that the Main and ACE Market Listing Requirements amendments are being implemented in phases to provide listed issuers time to familiarise themselves with the respective requirements.
Hashim said: “We are pleased to see the enhanced disclosures being undertaken with noteworthy progress in sustainability-related practices and disclosures by many listed issuers even before the mandatory periods.
"This puts our listed issuers in good stead as Malaysia pushes the bar for more robust ESG disclosures over the next few years," he added.
