BPU workers in Indonesia's transportation sector to benefit from 50% discount on JKK and JKM contributions per month

BPU workers in Indonesia's transportation sector to benefit from 50% discount on JKK and JKM contributions per month

KEMNAKER said the reduced payment amount, from January 2026 to March 2027, aims to protect transportation workers from work accident and death risks, while ensuring continued JKK–JKM coverage for those working in the field on a daily basis.

As announced by Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan Republik Indonesia (KEMNAKER), non-wage earners (BPU) in the transportation sector will receive a 50% discount on Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM) contributions, reducing monthly payments from IDR16,800 to IDR8,400.

JKK provides protection against work accidents and occupational diseases, covering medical treatment, compensation, and disability benefits. Meanwhile, JKM, offers cash benefits to heirs when a participant passes away due to natural causes of other non-work-related causes.

The contribution deduction forms part of Indonesia’s 2026 economic stimulus package, aimed at protecting transportation workers from work-related accident and death risks while ensuring continued JKK–JKM coverage for those working in the field daily.

According to Indah Anggoro Putri, Director General of Industrial Relations and Labour Social Security Development, Kemnaker, this initiative is designed to make job protection more affordable for transportation workers. She added that the discount specifically targets BPU workers who operate independently and do not receive wages or salaries from employers.

Eligible workers include platform-based and non-platform-based drivers and couriers, whether they are existing participants or newly registered members. However, this discount, as DG Indah shared, is not applicable to BPU participants whose JKK-JKM contributions are paid through the State Budget/APBD.

The JKK–JKM contribution discount will be valid for 15 months, from January 2026 to March 2027, she Indah confirmed.
