Applications for Malaysia's Gig Career Programme extended until 31 December 2021

Applicants who are eligible will receive an incentive of RM600, while employers who offer temporary jobs to these applicants will receive an incentive of RM200.

Applications for the Gig Career Programme (Programme Kerjaya Gig) under Career Generator 3.0 (Programme Penjanakerjaya 3.0) have been extended until 31 December 2021, the Prime Minister's Office of Malaysia (Jabatan Perdana Menteri) announced on 4 September (Saturday).

Under the programme, the government will provide an incentive of RM600 to individuals who are offered a temporary job for up to six months, and RM200 to employers, service providers, platforms or organisations that offer temporary jobs or gigs registered with the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), an agency of the Ministry of Human Resources.

To be eligible for the Gig Career Programme, applicants must be under one of the four criteria below:

  1. Formal employees who are registered with SOCSO, but given a notice of unpaid leave.
  2. SOCSO-registered individuals who lost their jobs.
  3. Individuals who are unemployed for more than 180 days.
  4. Individuals who are single mothers, persons with disabilities, ex-prisoners, and low-income heads of families registered with e-Kasih, a database that gathers those who earn less than RM1,500 (in urban states) or RM1,000 (rural states) per month.

Applicants must also ensure that they submit proof of employment activities by uploading the Gig Activity Log through the application system for the next monthly incentive payment. At the same time, they must also inform SOCSO if they have received a full -time job offer within 24 hours.

"If they fail to do so, the amount of payment received will be reclaimed," SOCSO added.
