Up the ranks: Roberta Duarte returns to Maersk as Chief People Officer

Duarte previously spent a decade with the global logistics company between 2014 and 2024, holding several positions across regions.

A.P. Moller - Maersk (Maersk) has appointed Roberta Duarte (pictured above) as its new Chief People Officer, effective 1 November 2026.

Duarte will rejoin the company’s Executive Leadership Team, succeeding Susana Elvira, who announced in August that she would explore opportunities outside Maersk after 24 years with the organisation.

The appointment marks a return to Maersk for Duarte, who previously spent a decade with the global logistics company between 2014 and 2024. During this period, she held several senior people leadership positions across Latin America and Asia Pacific, before taking on global roles supporting Maersk’s Ocean, Logistics and Services businesses.

Duarte most recently served as Chief People Officer at medical diagnostics company Werfen, a role she has held since May 2024.

“I am truly honoured to return to Maersk. It is a company that feels like home to me – both because its values resonate strongly with my own and because of the many relationships I built during my years with Maersk,” Duarte said. 

Before joining Maersk, Duarte built her HR career at Citi, working across Latin and North America. Her previous positions included HR Head for Costa Rica and Panama, Country HR Officer and Public Affairs Officer in Ecuador, and HR Vice President for Corporate and Consumer Bank Independent Risk and Compliance, Public Affairs, and Legal across Latin America.
