Talent & Tech Asia Summit 2024

Thank you and goodbye, HR

The first issue of Human Resources to carry my name in the glory box was the November 2010 issue, so it only seems fitting the last one would be an October issue.

That’s right, folks. Tomorrow marks my last day at the magazine, and it’s been one hell of an adventure. Like many people in HR, I fell into the industry by accident (I didn’t know which magazine I was interviewing for), but I’m glad I got into it.

In the four years I’ve been reporting on HR, I’ve seen the function become more strategic, I’ve watched senior thought leaders inspire companies, I’ve met some of the coolest and most genuine people in the world, and I’ve seen first-hand how a function once deemed as purely administrative can change entire cultures and bottom lines.

I’d like to think that you and I have shared a pretty good relationship, HR. Together, we’ve watched companies open up their doors and hearts to LGBT employees, and helped one another understand why Gen Ys act the way we do. We’ve also had serious conversations about productivity and slightly less serious conversations about… productivity.

To answer a few questions I know will be coming up, I am not moving to another publication, and I’m not staying in journalism.

Let’s just say that after all these years of reporting on the industry, I’ve decided to give it a go myself.

While I haven’t gone full HR, I’ve been given a great opportunity to do talent acquisition for the region. I’ll still be based in Singapore, so you haven’t gotten rid of me just yet. And even though I may no longer be a journalist, that does not mean I will stop being hungry for a good story over good coffee! You can find me on LinkedIn and Twitter.

But for all things related to the magazine, please stay in touch with our editor Rebecca Lewis, content producer Akankasha Dewan, and our newest addition, Aditi Sharma Kalra. The team have been working super duper hard on a few exciting events in the second half of this year, and I know they would be extremely stoked to see you there. Consider it your farewell gift to me ;)

Plus, our conferences tend to be pretty awesome. The photo above is from our inaugural HR Leaders' Summit in Phuket earlier this year.

That said, keep up the good work, and keep fighting the good fight. It's been an absolute pleasure. Thank you for the support, encouragement, advice, and love all these years.

I'll see you around.
