Singapore Airlines' hiring plans grounded in response to COVID-19

Singapore's flag carrier, Singapore Airlines, has announced a hiring freeze for all ground positions in light of the developing COVID-19 situation.

In a statement to Human Resources Online, the company has said: "Over the last three years, SIA’s Transformation Programme has strengthened our revenue generating capabilities and driven operational efficiencies. This means we are able to tackle Covid-19 from a position of strength.

"SIA has implemented a general recruitment freeze for all ground positions in response to Covid-19."

Having said that, the spokesperson added: "We are closely monitoring the evolving situation and will be decisive in implementing any additional measures that may be needed. However, we will not do anything that compromises the SIA Group’s long-term competitiveness."
