PM Anwar launches CelcomDigi’s CD:NXT to train 5,000 youths for Malaysia’s digital future

The initiative will train 5,000 young Malaysians in AI, data, and technology to support the nation’s ambition of becoming a 5G and AI-powered digital economy.

On 26 August, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s Prime Minister officiated the launch of CD:NXT, CelcomDigi’s flagship initiative to develop a new generation of digital leaders for the nation’s digital economy.

The programme aims to equip 5,000 Malaysian youths with hands-on experience and future-relevant skills in artificial intelligence (AI), technology, data and analytics to support Malaysia’s transition into a 5G and AI-powered digital nation.

Built upon strategic partnerships with universities and technology firms, CD:NXT provides an industry-aligned curriculum and real-world roles focused on key digital competencies. The initiative is designed to enhance employability and foster changemakers committed to sustainability and inclusive growth.

At the launch, Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi said: “The initiative will train 5,000 young Malaysians in AI, data, and technology to support the nation’s ambition of becoming a 5G and AI-powered digital economy.”

The first cohort of 20 promising young talents began their journey under the CD:NXT Young Talent Programme, selected from over 3,600 applicants through rigorous cognitive and panel assessments by CelcomDigi leadership. These individuals were chosen for their potential and expertise in critical digital fields.

CD:NXT comprises three distinct programmes:

  • Young Talent Programme (YTP): A two-year track for high-potential graduates, training them in eight future-critical areas, including AI, cybersecurity, cloud engineering and sustainability.
  • CelcomDigi UniConnects: A university-industry collaboration that aligns academic curricula with real-world digital needs and boosts graduate employability.
  • Student Ambassador Programme: A leadership and innovation platform that empowers students to champion digital inclusion and sustainability.

During the event, the PM Anwar also toured the CelcomDigi AI Experience Centre (AiX), an immersive innovation hub created with more than 55 global and local partners. AiX showcases 61 ready-to-deploy use cases across eight verticals such as manufacturing, logistics and smart cities, and already hosts 25 active pilot projects.

The AiX supports Malaysian enterprises in adopting digital and AI solutions through proven technologies and expert guidance aimed at boosting productivity and scaling innovations locally and abroad.

Together with CD:NXT, CelcomDigi is investing in young talent as a key driver of Malaysia’s digital future, aimed at equipping them with the skills and mindset to thrive in a 5G and AI-driven world while supporting the nation’s goal of building a digitally advanced, globally competitive, and inclusive country.
