Oracle rumoured to cut up to 1,800 jobs

Oracle is rumoured to be laying off up to 1,800 staff members across facilities worldwide. Reportedly, some of the cuts have already happened, with more still to come.

The job cuts were first reported by the San Jose Mercury News after the paper reportedly saw a letter sent to the Employment Development Department by Oracle detailing layoffs of 450 employees at its hardware systems division in Santa Clara, California.

In the letter, the company is said to have written: "The Santa Clara facility is not closing as part of this reduction in force. Rather, Oracle is refocusing its Hardware Systems business, and for that reason, has decided to lay off certain of its employees in the Hardware Systems Division."

In addition to the Santa Clara reports, people have been discussing more potential Oracle job cuts on websites like thelayoff.com. Some of these have already taken place, like the 200 employees that were recently let go from Oracle's research and development department in Beijing.

When asked about the reported developments, an Oracle spokesperson told Human Resources magazine the company has no comment on the matter.
