Ng Wai Choong, previously the deputy secretary (policy) at the Ministry of Finance (MOF), was appointed the chief executive of Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA), effective April 1, 2015.
He took over from Chee Hong Tat, who was appointed the second permanent secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) in December last year.
In his past role at the MOF, Ng was involved in developing many fiscal initiatives including the Resilience Package, Pioneer Generation Package, and GST Voucher.
He also co-led the secretariat for the Economic Strategies Committee in 2009.
Between 2004 and 2007, he served as deputy secretary (industry) at MTI, where he played a key role in setting up the Competition Commission of Singapore and the Enterprise 2015 Masterplan, as well as the launch of the Technology Innovation Programme for SMEs.
Welcoming Ng on his new role, Ow Foong Pheng, permanent Secretary for MTI, said, “Wai Choong’s experience in various leadership roles in the civil service has equipped him well to lead and drive EMA in developing a dynamic energy sector in Singapore.”
