Recognising the importance of skill development and entrepreneurship in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created a new ministry to boost jobs and skilled professionals in the country.
The Ministry of Entrepreneurship will be headed by Sarbananda Sonowal, an MP from the Lakhimpur constituency of Assam, who will be the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.Â
The formal structure of the ministry is yet to be released as "we are still getting clarity on the ministry", said Sonowal in a statement.
At an event today, The Economic Times said Modi stated the country need to focus on skill, scale and speed to revive India's growth. He also called on universities to analyse the developmental process in India and contribute in making more informed policy-related decisions.
"The need of the hour is to think big. The more we focus on skill, scale & speed, it will increase India's growth trajectory," he posted on Twitter today.Â
"Sadly, role of think tanks has not increased to provide critical inputs to policy making. Universities must also play a big role in this," he added.Â
"Skill development remains our priority. We are blessed with a demographic dividend that can take us to great heights."
