These moves aim to enhance passenger connectivity and reinforce the city's position as a global aviation hub.

Hong Kong is stepping up efforts to strengthen its role as an international aviation hub through two initiatives announced on 3 November 2026: the launch of the ‘Linking the Trunk and Branch, Connecting Urban and Remote’ facilitated transit service for Mainland passengers, and a strategic partnership with Turkish Airlines.

Under the new transit service, passengers travelling from smaller Mainland cities to overseas destinations through Hong Kong can enjoy a seamless one-stop transfer experience. They only need to complete a single check-in procedure, with baggage checked through directly from their departure point to their overseas destination, eliminating the need for baggage reclaim or re-checking in Hong Kong.

The same convenience will also be available for international passengers travelling onwards to smaller Mainland cities through Hong Kong.

The first phase of the initiative leverages the close ties between Hong Kong and Zhejiang and Hubei provinces to roll out two brands, namely ‘Hangzhou-Hong Kong’ and ‘Wuhan-Hong Kong’ Transfer Services.

Through the ‘Hangzhou-Hong Kong’ Transfer Services, passengers can access the world through Hong Kong’s extensive international flight network. Meanwhile, the ‘Wuhan-Hong Kong’ Transfer Services will further connect Wuhan’s high-speed rail network with Hong Kong’s international aviation network.

Hong Kong’s Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the service enables Hong Kong to align with the national aviation network development by linking the Mainland’s ‘internal circulation’ aviation network with Hong Kong’s ‘external circulation’ international aviation network, thereby upgrading Hong Kong from its previous role as a ‘super connector’ to a pivotal point in the country’s dual circulation strategy.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government said it will continue working closely with the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), airlines, and relevant Mainland authorities to further expand the coverage of this facilitation service, with a view to attracting more Mainland and overseas passengers to transit through Hong Kong.

On the same day, the AAHK and Turkish Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation in aviation connectivity, operational development, sustainability initiatives, and talent development.

The HKSAR Government said the collaboration will strengthen links between Hong Kong and Turkish Airlines’ extensive network across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, while further reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as the world’s busiest cargo airport and a leading international aviation hub.
