From silos to synergy: How today’s leadership choices shape the workforce of tomorrow

'Progress over perfection' would be an ideal mindset for leaders to adopt when it comes to embarking on their HR transformation journey. Event report by Sarah Gideon.

On 20 August, senior HR and business leaders gathered for an exclusive half-day Leadership Lab to explore how technology is reshaping workforce systems and preparing organisations for the future of work. A partnership between Ramco and Workday, and supported by Human Resources Online (HRO), the session highlighted how AI, automation, and unified platforms can empower both people and organisations to thrive in an increasingly complex environment.

The event opened with a keynote by Adam Basor, GenAI in HR strategist and thought leader, who highlighted the importance of building a strong data foundation for successful AI adoption. He noted that nearly half of organisations lack real-time HR or payroll visibility, with many operating more than 29 payroll systems globally. According to Adam, this fragmentation can undermine the value of AI unless supported by structure, leadership buy-in, and workforce literacy.

He also pointed to AI’s growing role in high-volume recruitment, where 79% of organisations are already leveraging the technology. While AI offers significant potential to drive efficiency, Adam stressed the need for robust governance, change management, and efforts to address bias. His message was clear: sustainable AI adoption depends on aligning systems, people, and processes.

The spotlight then shifted to Deepak S. Iyer, Managing Director and APAC Workday Business Group Lead, Accenture, who shared about the organisation’s decade-long HR transformation journey.

Moving from 43 disparate payroll systems to a unified Workday platform serving 800,000 employees across 40 countries, Accenture adopted a 'progress over perfection' approach. The rollout began with the leadership teams before scaling globally, with payroll operations managed through Ramco’s solutions. Recently, Accenture advanced further by upgrading to Ramco’s AI-powered BASE platform, unlocking efficiency gains and agility at scale.

Throughout the session, a common theme emerged: breaking down silos to build smarter, connected systems that enhance both organisational performance and employee experience.

Key takeaways included:

  • The importance of AI literacy and reskilling,
  • Integrating technology into existing HR ecosystems, and
  • Consolidating platforms to reduce costs while improving scalability.

The Leadership Lab reinforced that the future of work is not just about adopting technology, but about using it to enable people. By combining AI, unified systems, and a people-first mindset, organisations can move from fragmented processes to workforce strategies built for the future.
