Looks like Malaysia's civil servants and pensioners are off to a great start this new year.

As planned in Budget 2016, the Malaysian government will be giving out a sum of RM500 as special assistance to civil servants and a special payment of RM250 to pensioners today.

The Star Online reported a total of 1.6 million civil servants and one million pensioners will benefit from the payouts.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the good news in a Tweet on Sunday.

"God willing, the government will give special payment amounting to RM500 to 1.6 million civil servants and RM250 to government pensioners tomorrow as promised in #Bajet2016 (Budget 2016)," he tweeted.

Other than the special payments, Malaysia's civil servants can expect to receive a number of additional incentives including tax relief, training funds and a rise in minimum wages to RM1,200. Minimum pension will also be raised to RM950 monthly for retirees with at least 25 years of service.
