Good news for those in the technology and creative fields. In 2017, these two groups of professionals can expect to see an increase in their base compensation by 3.8% and 3.6% respectively.
According to the 2017 Salary Guides from Robert Half Technology and The Creative Group, some roles - including mobile designer and data scientist - are projected to see even bigger gains.
Here are the eight roles expected to have the greatest gains in average starting pay in 2017:
Front-end web developer (1-3 years of experience)Percentage increase from 2016: 7.2%Average starting salary: $56,500 - $80,500
Mobile designerPercentage increase from 2016: 6.8%Average starting salary:$80,000 - $121,500
Data scientistPercentage increase from 2016: 6.4%Average starting salary:$116,000 - $163,500
User experience (UX) designer (3-5 years of experience)Percentage increase from 2016: 6.1%Average starting salary:$75,750 - $103,000
Big data engineerPercentage increase from 2016: 5.8%Average starting salary:$135,000 - $196,000
Network security engineerPercentage increase from 2016: 5.7%Average starting salary:$115,500 - $162,500
Content strategistPercentage increase from 2016: 5.4%Average starting salary:$81,250 - $115,250
Software engineerPercentage increase from 2016: 5.2%Average starting salary:$108,250 - $164,500
"Companies continue to seek out highly skilled professionals who can drive digital initiatives that will help them meet business goals and increase revenue," John Reed, senior executive director of Robert Half Technology and The Creative Group, said.
"Although employers are taking a measured approach to hiring, they're moving quickly and paying competitively when they identify tech and creative candidates who are a good fit for their organization, given the tight labor market with low unemployment rates."
