Career website CareerCast released their latest job stress report Thursday of what the most and least stressful jobs are for 2018.

To rank the most and least stressful careers from the 200 professions on the jobs rated report, CareerCast evaluated 11 stress factors: travel required; growth potential; deadlines; working in the public eye; competition in the field; physical demands; environmental conditions; hazards encountered on a regular basis; own life at risk; life of others at risk; and meeting or interacting with the public at large.

It is therefore not surprising then that jobs that are dangerous were at the top of the most stressful list; enlisted military personnel, firefighters, airline pilots and police officers were the four most stressful jobs of 2018.

“While the nature of fears and stressors for the 10 most stressful jobs are different, they are common fears just the same,” said Kyle Kensing, online content editor, for CarreerCast. “For those who thrive on stress, one of our most stressful professions may be a good fit for you.”

Although no job is ever truly stress-free there are ones that at least don’t work in the public eye, face imminent risk of bodily harm to oneself, and will not typically deal with high travel or workplace hazards like diagnostic medical sonographer that got top honours as the least stressful job.

If you decide to change careers and look to the list for some stress-free inspiration keep in mind the job’s outlook score. For example, even though jeweller was 7th least stressful job its growth outlook is negative at -3%. However, operations research analyst, which comes in as the 9th least stressful job, has a +27% growth outlook.
