With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, the chief executive of HSBC Hong Kong, Diana Cesar, announced that all employees will be granted HK$500 red packet (lai-see) in an internal email on Thursday morning.

The amount will be deposited into each employee's payroll account.

The chief executive also expressed her appreciation towards employees' contribution and commitment to the bank, especially in a time of uncertainties.

"While uncertainties in the outlook remain, I am confident that together we will overcome challenges and thrive in 2020," she wrote in the email.

A HSBC spokesperson told Human Resources that the bank would like to express its gratitude to staff for their hard work throughout the year on this festive occasion of the Chinese New Year.

In 2019, an electronic red packet of HK$500 was also distributed to employees.
