The Chief Human Capital and Operation Officer at Bank KEB Hana Indonesia shares how trust, humility, and empathy continue to shape her leadership philosophy as she drives people and organisational transformation.
HR leader Sumia (pictured above) believes leadership is a calling to lead with integrity, humility, and empathy. As Chief Human Capital and Operation Officer at Bank KEB Hana Indonesia, she drives organisational transformation through digital innovation while adopting adaptive, people-centred strategies.
Her contributions to the HR profession have also earned her awards and international recognition – and at the heart of her leadership journey that led to her success is one core belief:
Great leaders don't create more followers, they create more leaders.
Drawing inspiration from Ki Hajar Dewantara's Tut Wuri Handayani philosophy, she believes in empowering people by giving them trust, support, and the confidence to grow.
Speaking ahead of her session at #TransformTalentID, Sumia shares with HRO that she hopes everyone will leave with at least one new insight that inspires them to grow, not only personally, but also to make a meaningful contribution to their organisation.

I can fall asleep almost anywhere and within minutes. It's probably my hidden superpower.
Q What is the core belief in HR leadership that drives your leadership journey?
Great leaders don't create more followers, they create more leaders. As Ki Hajar Dewantara taught, Tut Wuri Handayani means empowering people by giving them trust, support, and the confidence to grow.
Q In fewer than 10 words, what is your #1 motto for leading teams more effectively?
The real greatness of a leader is found in humility.
Q A quick preview of your session at Transform Talent 2026: what do you hope attendees will take away from your presentation this year?
I hope everyone leaves with at least one new insight that inspires them to grow — not only personally, but also to make a meaningful contribution to their organisation.
