Cambodia offers 40 days of paid time off, ranking the highest in Asia & Oceania

Within the APAC region, Myanmar comes second with 32 days, followed by Australia, Indonesia, and India at 29 days, and Bhutan and Bangladesh closely behind (27 and 24.5 respectively).

Paid time-off is more than just a perk – it's a reflection of how a country values work-life balance. Across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, there's a striking contrast in how governments approach statutory leave and public holidays.

A study by Moorepay analysed official government data on paid leave entitlements across APAC, revealing where around the region are workers getting the most and least time to rest.

Here is the breakdown of the results across Southeast Asia and North Asia:

Countries with the most paid time off in 2025 (statutory paid annual leave plus paid public holidays)

Asia Pacific:

  1. Cambodia - 40
  2. Australia - 29
  3. India - 29
  4. Indonesia - 29
  5. Vietnam - 23
  6. Malaysia - 19
  7. Singapore - 19
  8. Thailand - 19

North Asia

  1. South Korea - 31
  2. Mongolia - 26
  3. China - 18
  4. Japan - 10

Countries with the most and least paid annual leave

Asia Pacific:

  1. Australia - 20
  2. India - 12
  3. Indonesia - 12
  4. Vietnam - 12
  5. Malaysia - 8
  6. Singapore - 7
  7. Thailand - 6

North Asia:

  1. Mongolia - 15
  2. South Korea - 11
  3. Japan - 10
  4. China - 5

Methodology

The comparison of paid time off across countries was conducted by combining statutory paid leave with statutory public holidays for each nation. To ensure consistency, countries that report leave in calendar days had their figures converted into working days, based on a standard five-day workweek.

To estimate the average value of paid time off, adjusted net income per capita was used. This provided an approximate monetary worth of the total leave entitlement in each country.
