Employees working indoors should continue to work as usual. Employees working outdoors or in exposed areas should take temporary shelter in a safe place as soon as practicable.
The Hong Kong Observatory has issued the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal at 9:10am today, meaning that heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally across Hong Kong, and which is likely to continue.
Due to severely flooded roads and poor weather conditions, the public is advised to take shelter in a safe place and stay there. It has been recommended not to travel until the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is lifted and traffic conditions improve.
The Labour Department has reminded employers to make prior work arrangements for employees during and after rainstorm warnings and extreme conditions as early as possible, including arrangements on reporting for duty, release from work, resumption of work and remote work (if applicable).
If a Red or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued during working hours, employees working indoors should continue to work as usual unless it becomes dangerous. Supervisors of employees working outdoors or in exposed areas should suspend outdoor duties as soon as practicable and arrange for employees to take temporary shelter, only resuming work only when weather conditions permit.
If the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal remains in effect by the end of working hours, employees should stay in a safe place until the heavy rain has passed. Employers should provide a suitable area in the workplace as temporary shelter for employees.
