Bangkok ranks first among the top 10 travel destinations globally in 2026

Paris, France, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Barcelona, Spain, and Rome, Italy round up the top five.

Bangkok, Thailand has topped the list of top 10 travel destinations globally in 2026, according to eDreams ODIGEO's latest Year in Travel findings.

The Thai capital emerged as the most booked destination based on eDreams' flight booking data for travel dates from 1 January to 31 December 2026. Following closely in second place are Paris, France and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

As a whole, the top 10 travel destinations are as follows:

  5. Rome, Italy
  6. London, UK
  7. Madrid, Spain
  8. Florianopolis, Brazil
  9. Amsterdam, Netherlands
  10. Marrakech, Morocco

Bangkok also emerged first among the most-searched destinations for 2026, with fellow Thai contender Phuket ranking sixth.

The top 10 most-searched destinations are:

  6. Phuket, Thailand
  7. Frankfurt, Germany
  8. Bali, Indonesia
  9. Rome, Italy

Commenting on the rankings, the Public Relations Department of Thailand attributed Thailand's "strong performance" "vibrant" calendar of festivals and events that attract visitors throughout the year, including nationwide celebrations such as Songkran and Loy Krathong (lantern festival); and regional events such as Bun Bang Fai (Rocket Festival) and Phi Ta Khon (Ghost Festival). 

"These events span music, arts, culture, sports, and cuisine, showcasing Thailand’s rich traditions and reinforcing its reputation as a diverse and dynamic travel destination."

Snapshot: 2026 travel trends

According to the findings, major sporting, cultural and music events are set to drive travel demand in 2026, with search data pointing to clear spikes around key global fixtures.

Sports tourism remains a major draw, led by the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in February, which has pushed searches to Italy up 24%. The Six Nations Rugby Union tournament is also boosting interest, with combined searches up 14% across host cities in England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.

Per the data, later in the year, the Fifa Men’s World Cup – co-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico – is already lifting searches to Mexico and Canada by up to 15% and 14% respectively, while events such as the Asian Games in Japan and the Rugby League World Cup in Australia are expected to further fuel demand.

Cultural festivals are also influencing travel plans. Searches to Japan rose 12% during the Sapporo Snow Festival in February, while Rio Carnival has lifted interest in Rio de Janeiro by 7%. Annual events such as Oktoberfest in Germany and Mexico’s Day of the Dead are also expected to drive seasonal travel spikes later in the year.

Finally, music tourism continues to gain momentum, with major tours and events prompting sharp rises in travel interest. The data showcased a 166% surge in searches for Vienna around the Eurovision Song Contest in May, while concert tours by artists such as Ariana Grande and The Weeknd are said to be driving increased demand for cities including Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Milan.
