Malaysia extends deadline for Visa with Reference Approval Letter applications to 21 April 2024

Minister of Home Affairs Saifuddin Nasution has urged employers to make the most of this extension period to obtain the VDR Approval Letter.

Malaysia's Ministry of Home Affairs will be extending the deadline for Visa with Reference (VDR) Approval Letter applications at the Immigration Department of Malaysia to 21 April 2024.

The initial deadline was set as 31 March 2024.

Announcing this on Thursday (4 April 2024), Minister of Home Affairs Saifuddin Nasution urged employers to make the most of this extension period to obtain the VDR Approval Letter.

According to a corresponding update by Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, the deadline for the entry of foreign workers in the formal sector remains 31 May 2024.

Visa With Reference (VDR) refers to a visa issued by the Malaysian Representative Office abroad to a non-citizen to enable individuals to enter Malaysia after the visa is approved by the Immigration Department Headquarters. There are five categories:

  • Application for a Visa With Reference (Wife of Malaysia Citizen)
  • Application for a Visa With Reference (Husband of Malaysian Citizen)
  • Application for a Visa With Reference (Afghanistan)
  • Application for a Visa With Reference (India)
  • Application for a Visa With Reference (China, Vietnam, North Korea and Cuba)
