Top 10 global destinations to work remotely in 2024

閱讀中文版本

Tokyo and Taipei are two Asian cities that have made it to the list.

Spain, Portugal, and Canada may be your next travel stops, as Madrid, Madeira, and Toronto respectively have been ranked the top global destinations for remote work in Remote's latest analysis.

The list of the 100 top global destinations for remote work came from an in-depth analysis of eight factors spanning quality of life, safety, internet infrastructure, attractiveness, openness, cost of living, inflation, and incentives for remote workers. As the concept of remote work transitions from a necessity to a lifestyle choice for many, the list has been updated with new factors reflecting this reality, including inflation and the availability of a digital nomad visa, which is now offered by more than 50 countries.

Madrid ranked top by virtue of its mix of "medieval romance and modern sophistication", together with a low tax rate and generous expat visa options targeted at freelancers and remote workers.

Portugal's Madeira came second as it offers competitive tax rates, generous residency options, coworking and living spaces built with digital nomads in mind, and a burgeoning startup community. Canada's Toronto and New Zealand's Auckland followed in the third and fourth spots respectively.

Here're the top 10 global destinations for remote work:

  3. Toronto
  4. Auckland
  5. Tokyo

How do Asian cities fare?

Tokyo and Taipei are two Asian cities that have made it to the top 10. Tokyo has a good mix of crucial factors for remote workers, including attractiveness, safety, and internet speed. Japan has also recently launched a brand-new digital nomad visa to attract remote workers.

Taipei, on the other hand, welcomes digital nomads with the Taiwan Gold Card, which is a four-in-one visa with a work permit, resident visa, alien resident certificate, and a re-entry permit. This is in addition to its thriving expat community, fast internet, plentiful co-working spaces, and top-notch public transportation.
