Cathay Pacific trainer arrested for allegedly groping student

More bad news for Cathay Pacific this week. Shortly after rumours about job cuts at the airline started earlier in the week, local media reported a 32-year-old instructor at the airline's safety training school had been arrested over the alleged indecent assault of his student.

According to Apple Daily, the victim is a 34-year-old trainee air steward who joined the airline in March this year. He was sent for safety training at Cathay City, the airline’s headquarters on April 17.

He was asked by the instructor to stay behind after class. The two were alone when the instructor allegedly groped the victim's chest, buttocks, and lower body.

The steward filed a police report two days later and resigned from his job.

The police confirmed to HK01 that a police report of the case was filed on April 19 and last Wednesday, a 32-year-old man who was believed to be related to the case was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault. The man was released on bail after questioning and will report to the police in early June.

A Cathay Pacific spokesman told Human Resources Magazine the incident is being handled by the police and they are cooperating with the investigation.
