All applications for new and renewal EPs by MDEC-registered companies must now be submitted through Xpats Gateway

These applications will be directed to the MDEC Expats System, where the companies are required to provide all necessary information for submission.

All registered companies registered under the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), applying for new and renewal Employment Passes (EP) must submit their applications through the Xpats Gateway using the same login credentials as the MDEC Expats System.

As shared in an update by the Expatriate Services Division (ESD), these applications will be directed to Expats System, where the companies are required to provide all necessary information for submission. To note, MDEC will continue to review these applications for approval decision.

In line with this, the ESD has shared a set of frequently asked questions on the Xpats Gateway, excerpts of which are shared below:

Q What is the Xpats Gateway?

It is an end-to-end solution that enables communication with relevant partner agencies throughout the application process. All decisions are issued electronically via Xpats Gateway, allowing for more efficient processing by partner agencies and well-time approvals.

Q How do I log in to Xpats Gateway?

ESD companies: The Employer can access Xpats Gateway via the ESD Online landing page and click on the Xpats Gateway icon. To log in to Xpats Gateway, use the same login ID and password that is registered on ESD Online.

MDEC companies: The Employer can access Xpats Gateway via the ESD Online landing page and click on the Xpats Gateway icon. To log in to Xpats Gateway, use the same login credentials as the MDEC Expats System.

Q Can an employer apply for the Support Letter via Xpats Gateway without an ESD account?

Employers are required to register for an account on ESD Online to access Xpats Gateway.

Q Can I request a Support Letter physically from the respective Agencies?

Effective 15 June 2023, all requests for Support Letters from the respective Agencies must be made via the Xpats Gateway.

Q Do all expatriates require a Support Letter from the Agencies?

Support Letters are required for employers that are under the purview of the respective Agencies.

Q Must all applications under MDEC’s purview be submitted through the Xpats Gateway?

Effective 24 April 2024, all new and renewal applications for Employment Pass (EP) must be submitted through the Xpats Gateway.

Q Will the expatriate application be automatically approved once the employer receives the Support Letter?

Applications are required to be submitted and processed via ESD Online, and all application approvals are subject to the decision of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
