In a bid to match more job seekers to employers, Workforce Singapore’s (WSG) Careers Connect has enhanced its community level efforts by introducing a new community-level collaboration programme with North East Community Development Council (NECDC) and Our Tampines Hub (OTH), known as R³ (Recruit, Reskill, Retain).
R³’s objective is to help jobseekers find work in districts near their residences and enable employers to better target their recruitment, talent development and retention efforts.
Drawing on available job opportunities offered by a diverse group of employers participating in Adapt and Grow community job fairs and Jobs Bank, the R³ focuses on three essential stages employers need to pay attention to:
At the recruitment stage, career coaches from Careers Connect (OTH) curate a list of potential jobseekers for employers. At the same time, learning journeys will be organised to the hiring employers’ premises to enable jobseekers to have a better understanding of the work environment and job requirements, easing any concerns and reservations by jobseekers about taking on the jobs.
At the reskilling stage, career coaches from Careers Connect (OTH) will help employers identify skill gaps and relevant training for potential and hired candidates to equip them with the necessary skills. Employers will also get up to 90% and/or 100% course fee subsidy for industry/occupational, and foundational skills training respectively.
At the retention stage, career coaches will provide post placement support to both the jobseeker and hiring supervisor to help address performance, competency, or assimilation challenges, in an effort to facilitate talent retention.
Launched by Second Minister for Manpower, Josephine Teo, at the opening of WSG’s Careers Connect at OTH, the R³ programme will be piloted for three months at the North East district.
This comes in conjunction with the opening of the Careers Connect (Lifelong Learning Institute) and rebranding of Careers Connect (OTH) which will enable more Singaporeans to be assisted under Adapt and Grow, as well as offer an expanded suite of career matching services by WSG.
Tan Choon Shian, chief executive of WSG said: “WSG’s long-standing partnership with community organisations like the CDC has proven useful in helping displaced jobseekers who require more flexible work hour arrangements to better balance work and family commitments by finding work nearer to their residences.
“With the strong support of OTH, Careers Connect’s career matching services will become even more accessible to residents in the Tampines area and North East district.”
Additionally, yesterday, WSG, NECDC and OTH collaborated on a curated Adapt and Grow Career Fair for the PMETs which featured eight employers (including CBM, Go-Ahead Singapore, Jabil Circuit (Singapore), and Neurones Software Solutions) offering career opportunities within the proximity of the North East district.
About 80 jobs across the information and communications technology (ICT), facilities management, and manufacturing sectors were available at the one-day career event. with salaries ranging between $2,500 and $7,000. Hiring positions included business analyst, management executive, HR executive, project manager, engineering supervisor, cost analyst, and accountant; and staggered working hours were offered by most companies to help jobseekers balance their commitments.
