HR (and more) professional appointments

Director of talent and culture appointed at Rosewood Hotel Group

Effective July 2019, Wesley Ling became the director of talent and culture at Rosewood Hotel Group. He brings with him a wealth of HR experience from his previous roles in the hospitality sector.

Before this appointment, he undertook a variety of roles at the Marco Hotel for almost three years – rising from learning and development manager to assistant director of human resources. Before that he worked for serviced-apartment specialist Ovolo Hotels, and at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Hong Kong for four years.

Maria Hui moves from senior HR to marketing and operations at Microsoft

Starting 1 August, Maria Hui relinquished her role as director of human resources at the Hong Kong subsidiary of Microsoft to become director of marketing and operations at the tech giant.

It’s a career change that may come as surprise to many given the perception of the widely diverse range of skills necessary to flourish in HR and marketing.

Before her new appointment at Microsoft – where she has worked for three-and-a-half years – she spent more than four years at IBM in a variety of HR roles. Over her career, she has gained specialist knowledge in data governance, business intelligence, data warehouse and project management.

“Maria has proven to be a strong people manager and business manager, striving to empower individuals and companies to transform. We’re excited that Maria is taking up a bigger responsibility in her new capacity to help our customers and partners on their digital transformation journey in Hong Kong,” said Cally Chan, general manager of Microsoft Hong Kong and Macau.

In an interesting footnote, Microsoft states that in its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, more than 40% of its Hong Kong workforce is women, while 50% of its leadership team is made up of women.
