Slapping boss charged with abuse

The boss of an IT company who allegedly hurt and slapped an employee was charged in court yesterday.

Lee Yew Nam, boss of Encore eServices, faces a total of six charges for the alleged incident against Calvin Chan Meng Hock. Five counts are for causing hurt to an employee, and one charge of abusing him.

video of the incident went viral in May last year after an intern filmed it and posted in online, triggering public outrage.

Lee is accused of slapping Chan sometime between July 2010 and January 2011 at his office in Jurong Town Hall.

Then in January 2013, it is alleged Lee slapped Chan around the face. He is also accused of punching and pushing him in another alleged incident a month later.

Lee is also accused of hurting Chan in another incident on May 14, when he allegedly grabbed his face and pushed him. He is also accused of using abusive works and causing distress to Chan.

The case will be heard on March 26.
