In the first Forbes list of the richest global tech billionaires, Microsoft’s Bill Gates has unsurprisingly taken the top spot.
The list looked into the wealth of the 100 richest people in technology – 33 of these hailed from Asia including 10 Chinese.
Jack Ma of Alibaba was number seven with a worth of $23.2 billion, the wealthiest of 10 Chinese billionaires on the list. Tencent’s Ma Hua Teng was ranked number 11 with $16.1 billion.
Gates, who has long been one of the richest man in the world, led the group with an estimated worth of $79.6 billion. Oracle founder Larry Ellison at $50 billion was in second place. Number three was Bezos who saw a gain of some $13 billion in his fortune this year with the rise of Amazon shares. He is is now worth $47.8 billion.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg came in fourth with a net worth of $41.2 billion followed by Google founders Larry Page ($33.4 billion) and Sergey Brin ($32.8 billion).
Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was number nine at $21.4 billion. Jobs was the richest of the seven women on the list.
The average age of the group was 53 , a decade younger than the average of all billionaires according to Forbes, with Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel being the youngest at 25 and and estimated wealth of $2.1 billion
94 of the tech billionaires on the list created their own companies, while three inherited their wealth, and three others inherited fortunes and expanded them.
