Plans to boost infocomm and media careers

The Infocomm Media Masterplan Steering Committee has suggested the creation of an online learning portal to help on-board young infocomm and media (ICM) professionals.

In a bid to facilitate open and accelerated professional development, while addressing the industry’s need for talent, the committee hopes the portal will help ICM professionals acquire skills and find new job opportunities.

The portal would also ensure quality jobs for Singaporeans as it would “create more avenues for learning through work attachments, as well as alternatives for professionals in small and medium enterprises to pursue a degree”.

The committee is also looking at ways to facilitate collaboration between new players and existing companies in the sector.

One proposal in the consultation document included creating a self-sustaining start-up ecosystem “where Singapore-based ICM start-ups can tap on the expertise, international connections and capital of a wide network of private investors”.

“These ideas represent potential new and bold directions for the ICM sectors. As such, we want to engage the industry and public to discuss viable business models and approaches that can support the ideas,” Koh Boon Hwee, chairman of the Infocomm Media Masterplan Steering Committee, said.

“These ideas are preliminary and not exhaustive – we welcome other views and ideas to grow our infocomm and media industry and how we can further make use of ICM as an enabler for other sectors.”
