HR is an ever evolving field and in some sectors we have already begun to see the seeds of the next stage of evolution for HR practices. There is a shift towards a more holistic look at how HR leaders would be able to utilise all available resources towards maximising an employee’s potential beyond the usual monetary rewards or staff benefits like health coverage.
This has led to an emergence of a thoughtful combination of total rewards and physical workplace strategies that enhances employee performance and wellness. The physical workplace environment is often overlooked as a powerful tool for supporting employee performance or enhancing their health and wellness and this is slowly changing. Some organisations have begun combining the role of traditional HR with the more physical side of things such as facilities and environmental design.
This could mean having dedicated spaces which encourage social interactions, creative thinking, open work spots or even a quiet space for some down time. It would also be coupled with a new way to look at performance matrices, reward strategies and employee benefits informed with data analytics and good old employee feedback.
This is the evolution that I believe we will see in HR, leading to greater alignment between how we hire great talents, how we reward them, how we craft supportive benefits and how we create an enabling environment for them to thrive and succeed.
