In a statement to Human Resources, McDonald’s Singapore announces the launch of its first large-scale National Hiring Day on 13 May, as 700 crew members and managers gather for a mass hiring drive, aiming to attract 2,000 applicants signing up to become their next colleagues.
About 120 participating McDonald’s restaurants are also conducting open houses from 13 to 19 May to give interested candidates a back-of-house tour, enlightening them on the culture and various roles offered in a McDonald’s restaurant.
Employees ranging from millennials to mature workers are offered a variety of continuous training and education opportunities such as hospitality and management development programmes; as part of McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity initiative. Through such programmes, it is possible for McDonald’s restaurant managers to have started as a crew member and reach their fullest potential to become top managers.
Interestingly, 50% of McDonald’s current workforce consists of millennials aged 35 years and below. Thus, students who work with McDonald’s are given flexible hours that fit their schedules. Moreover, as one of the pioneers to begin hiring mature workers in the 1980s, family-friendly policies are also in place to allow employees with family commitments to enjoy work-life balance.
Lynn Hong, director of human resources at Hanbaobao (licensee of McDonald’s Singapore) said: “We believe in offering our employees opportunities to learn, grow and lead in an inspiring and nurturing workplace. This is also the motivation behind our first-ever large-scale National Hiring Day as we aim to maintain and grow a sustainable workforce at McDonald’s by engaging all of our potential employees including students, stay-at-home mothers or even retirees.”
McDonald’s aims to attract 2,000 new crew member applicants during the week of National Hiring Day and remains committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment for all employees.
