PSMB collaborates with Indian institute to develop skills

Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB), an arm of the Malaysia Ministry of Human Resource, has yesterday signed a MoU with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) to develop the skills of the Malaysian workforce.

According to a press statement, the collaboration will allow PSMB to tap on the expertise of EDII in the field of education, training, research and institution building to enhance the capability of its trainers in delivering comprehensive and high-quality trainings. In turn, this will help PSMB deliver better programmes for up-skilling and reskilling Malaysian women, low household income community and youth.

PSMB and EDII will work together in the areas of skill development, reskilling, entrepreneurship development, capacity building, raining and methodology, content development, consulting and research.

The first activity after signing the MoU would be to train close to 100 youths in entrepreneurship through classroom training, simulation exercises and field exposure.

Spearheaded by the Malaysian Government, the initiative aims to equip unemployed graduates and school leavers with the skills and competencies required by the industries to enhance their future employability. The initiative is open to all Malaysian graduates who have successfully acquired their Diplomas, Degrees or equivalent; and school-leavers.

Dato' CM Vignaesvaran Jeyandran, chief executive, the Human Resources Development Fund, said: "PSMB and EDII share the same objective of enriching the knowledge of the national human capital and to elevate the business capabilities of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to increase national economic growth.

"With EDII's experience and expertise at national and international levels in education, training, research and institution building, it makes for a good partnership. PSMB is always on the lookout for opportunities to further enhance Malaysia human capital development module through collaborations and benchmarking. EDII will work closely with PSMB's initiative of skill development as a facilitator for boosting the economic power of Malaysia."

Dr. Sunil Shukla, director EDII, said: "We are immensely delighted and proud to join hands with PSMB. The partnership is an example of how countries can work together to create job opportunities for the youth, and participate in global sustainable development goals."

The signing was done in the presence of Shri Narendra Modi,Prime Minister of India, and Dato Sri Mohammad Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

PSMB has a mandate by the Government of Malaysia to implement strategic initiatives to empower the quality and employability of the Malaysian human capital to support the Malaysia aspiration of a 35% skilled Malaysian workforce by the year 2020 while creating job opportunities to the locals.
