Singapore - Working mothers in Singapore want more flexible working schedules to help them strike a better balance between family and work.

With 40% of women in Singapore reporting they are exhausted juggling motherhood and their careers, working mothers are looking for more flexitime from employers to cope with their job demands. This is the solution more than 500 working and stay-at-home mothers, who gathered at the "Mothers Balance-it-All" themed Working Mothers Forum (WMF) on Saturday, wish to see implemented.

Being a mother, employee, wife and daughter at the same time does take a toll on working women today. Hence, having an understanding employer may help mothers cope with the heavier workload and not fear losing their jobs. Besides longer maternity leave, Luo Ying Ying, a teacher and mother of one, says having flexi hours will really help her in that aspect. "Flexi work arrangements like going to work slightly later especially when kids are of school going age, maybe working four day workweek."

Other work-life suggestions proposed by mothers at the forum include using travelling time from home to work as "ME" time, more communication with family and employers. The mothers also shared their wishes for all mothers in Singapore on the WMF Wishing Wall provided and their wishes ranged from free infant care provided by the government to better time management.
